Only eight people have been awarded honorary United States citizenship. One of these people is Bernardo de Gálvez (1746 – 1786), he aided the American Thirteen Colonies in their quest for independence and led Spanish forces against Britain in the Revolutionary War.

The Texas city of Galveston (Gálvez Town) is named in honor of him, in addition to Galveston Bay, Galveston County, Galvez, Louisiana, and St. Bernard Parish, Louisiana.
